Psychotherapy at its essence is a conversation between client and therapist for the purpose of achieving the client's goals.  For this endeavor to be fruitful, it needs to take place within a safe, secure and trusting environment.  I strive to achieve this with you, my client by utilizing my advanced clinical training and years of experience in treating a wide range of presenting problems.

If you are a family experiencing behavior, emotional or school related issues with your children, if you are in a relationship where you feel your needs are not being met or are adjusting to the end of a relationship, or if you are an individual experiencing anxiety, depression or substance abuse, I will tailor your treatment to your unique individual needs in a pragmatic and solution oriented way.

Since graduating in 1977 with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, I have been providing therapy to children, adolescents, couples, families and individuals. I received two years of post-graduate training at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic. I have been employed in private and public agencies as a therapist and clinical supervisor.  I have maintained my private practice since 1980. 40% of my practice is working with families with children and adolescents, 30% working with couples and 30% treating individuals.

I am a participating provider with all the major insurance carriers. My office hours are in the evening, Monday through Thursday as well as on Saturday. I am able to offer video therapy services. My professional memberships are with the National Association of Social Workers and I am a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. To schedule an appointment, or ask any questions, I can be reached at 301-963-6050. I can also be contacted via e-mail at mjmfamilytherapy@gmail.com
